“Moscow Mutiny” vertelt het verhaal van Russische antifascisten en anarchisten tijdens de anti-Poetin protesten van 2011-2012. Een van de hoofdpersonen van de film is Dmitry Petrov, ook bekend als Ilya Leshy, een anarchist, milieuactivist, auteur van boeken en artikelen, onderzoeker van Koerdistan en het noorden van Rusland .
In 2018 verliet Dmitry Rusland om deel te nemen aan de strijd voor een vrije samenleving in Koerdistan, Oekraïne en de rest van de wereld. Omwille van alle mensen die door het verachtelijke totalitaire systeem dat in Rusland en Wit-Rusland is gecreëerd, worden beroofd van hun waardigheid en de mogelijkheid om vrij te ademen.” Zo hoorden Dima’s kameraden en familieleden dat hij in de buurt van Bakhmut was gestorven.
De film toont episodes van zijn vorming als activist in de antifascistische en anarchistische beweging.
Volgens het principe “een beeld zegt meer dan duizend woorden” (cinemá verité) bevat de film geen commentaar, uitleg of inleidingen, maar geeft hij een dwarsdoorsnede weer van de levende Russische realiteit van die tijd. Dit is een blik achter de schermen van een genadeloze totalitaire samenleving en de getuigenis van degenen die zich ertegen verzetten. Het project is opgevat als een reflectie op de sterke en zwakke punten van de wereldwijde protesten in de hoop dat zijn verhaal iedereen die oprecht is in zijn zaak kan inspireren en helpen.” – schrijft de maker van de film Ikiru.

“Moscow Mutiny” tells the story of Russian anti-fascists and anarchists during the anti-Putin protests of 2011-2012. One of the main characters of the film is Dmitry Petrov, also known as Ilya Leshy, an anarchist, environmentalist, author of books and articles, researcher of Kurdistan and the North of Russia .
In 2018, Dmitry left Russia to participate in the fight for a free society in Kurdistan, Ukraine and around the world. In April 2023, his letter was published: “As an anarchist, revolutionary and Russian person… I did this for the sake of justice, the protection of Ukrainian society and the liberation of my country, Russia, from oppression. For the sake of all the people whom the vile totalitarian system created in Russia and Belarus deprives of dignity and the opportunity to breathe freely.” This is how Dima’s comrades and relatives learned that he had died near Bakhmut.
The film will show episodes of his formation as an activist the anti-fascist and anarchist movement.
Following the principle “a picture is worth a thousand words” (cinemá verité), the film does not contain comments, explanations or introductions, but represents a cross-section of the living Russian reality of that time. This is a look behind the scenes of a merciless totalitarian society and the testimony of those who resisted it. The project was conceived as a reflection on the strengths and weaknesses of the worldwide protests in the hope that his story can inspire and help all who are sincere in their causes.” – writes the film’s creator Ikiru.
